What is acute care?
Acute care refers to getting medical treatment for health problems that need immediate attention. The goal of an acute care visit is to quickly diagnose the problem and provide treatment that relieves your symptoms, whether they’re due to an illness or injury.
How do I access acute care?
Uncharted Healthcare welcomes walk-in patients or you can call to schedule a same-day appointment.
Since they’re a concierge practice, you pay $150 for the services you receive the day of your acute care visit, or you can become a member. If you sign up for a membership plan the same day of your acute care visit, they apply your payment to your membership fee.
The team also offers a discounted rate for current members who have a visiting relative or friend needing acute care.
What health conditions are treated in acute care?
The Uncharted Healthcare team provides comprehensive care for the full range of acute problems, with the most common being:
- Flu
- Sore throat
- Common colds
- Sinus infections
- Skin rashes
- Earaches
- Severe headaches
- Stomach aches
- Abdominal pain
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- Cuts and abrasions
- Sprains and strains
You may need acute care for a sudden flare-up of a chronic disease. Conditions like arthritis, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) often cause sudden attacks that need prompt medical care.
Does acute care cover emergencies?
The Uncharted Healthcare team can manage minor and moderate emergencies, such as cuts and sprains, but you need emergency room (ER) care for severe injuries and life-threatening conditions.
Acute care is not suitable for:
- Seizures
- Heavy bleeding
- Serious burns
- Traumatic brain injury
- Compound fractures (broken bones with open wounds)
- Known or suspected poisoning
- Loss of consciousness
- Heart attack
- Stroke
Chest pain or pressure, shortness of breath, dizziness, and pain in your shoulder, jaw, or arm are signs of a heart attack. Signs of a stroke include difficulty speaking and weakness in one arm or one side of your face.
Call 911 during a medical emergency. Don’t drive yourself or get a ride to the local emergency room. Medical technicians can begin immediate, lifesaving treatment before you get to the hospital.
