Mental Health Evaluation

A mental health evaluation is an important tool to determine the best treatment for your condition. At Uncharted Healthcare in Goodyear, Arizona, Roseann O’ Connell, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, offers personalized mental health evaluations and comprehensive treatments to help promote better emotional and mental well-being.

What is a mental health evaluation?

A mental health evaluation is a part of the treatment process for a psychiatric condition at Uncharted Healthcare.  Before developing a customized treatment program for you, Dr. O'Connell needs to understand as much about your mental health condition as possible. Mental health disorders are complex and often require an integrative approach to treatment. Your medical and mental health history, life experiences, and relationships are all factors to consider in your mental health evaluation.  Getting to the underlying cause of all of these potential factors gives Dr. O'Connell a better understanding of where to start with your psychiatric treatment.

Who can benefit from a mental health evaluation?

Anyone who is struggling with their mental wellness or suspect they may have a mental health issue can benefit from an evaluation.

Therapy

Mental health therapy can help you identify your goals and potential solutions to issues that cause you emotional distress. At Uncharted Healthcare in Goodyear, Arizona, Roseann O’ Connell, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, offers weekly and bi-weekly mental health counseling sessions that can promote behavior change, boost your self-esteem, and improve your coping and communication skills.

What is mental health therapy?

Mental health therapy is a guided form of talk therapy (psychotherapy) that allows you and Dr. O'Connell to identify areas of conflict in order to improve your mental health.  You may benefit from therapy if you’re struggling with a transition during a major life event, personal or work relationships, communication, stress management, and other areas of life that affect your overall mental wellness.

During each counseling session, she may use techniques such as motivational interviewing (MI) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to uncover the underlying cause of your mental health concern and help you find strategies to better cope with your situation.

Medication Management

Psychiatric medications help people struggling with mental health disorders, whether you need help overcoming depression, balancing mood swings, or improving your ability to concentrate. Medication management provided by Roseann O’ Connell, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC at Uncharted Healthcare in Goodyear, Arizona, helps you find the best medication and dose to overcome your symptoms and achieve optimal mental health and well-being.

What is medication management?

Medication management encompasses more than prescribing medicines. Psychiatric medication management begins with a thorough evaluation, includes regular follow-up appointments, and sometimes requires blood tests, depending on the medication you need. Most importantly, medication management provides a structured way to determine the right medicine and dose for each individual. It takes your input and collaboration with your provider to find the medication you need to achieve lasting well-being.

What should I expect during medication management appointments?

During your first medication management appointment, Dr. O'Connell reviews your medical history, learns about your symptoms and concerns, and completes a psychiatric assessment. Then, she recommends a treatment plan that may include medication, counseling, or both.

During your follow-up appointments, she evaluates your progress, ensures your symptoms are improving, and checks for potential side effects. Based on the information Dr. O'Connell decides whether to refill your current prescription, change the dose or change the medication.
